by September 10, 2020, NEW YORK—Montieth & Company (M&Co), a global specialist communications consultancy, today announces the launch of its new Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiative to offer complimentary news media training to women and minority executives.
“Our objective is to increase access to the media among underrepresented groups by making news media training free to women and minorities,” said Montieth M. Illingworth, CEO and Global Managing Partner of Montieth & Company. “No one can ignore the inequities within our society. As a communications consultancy, we recognize the power we have to break down the barriers of entry to the media for women and minority spokespeople and, thereby, increase the diversity of voices in our society.”
The free virtual media training, conducted via Zoom, is open to anyone who may benefit from it. Led by M&Co’s PR executives, the communication training offers participants an introduction to navigating interactions with the news media and empowers them to confidently communicate their ideas to journalists and field key questions. After completing the training session, participants receive PDF files of the materials for reference.
Early feedback for the free media training is overwhelmingly positive. Jerisha Grant-Hall, Chairperson of the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA), said that her colleagues “all left the workshop having more information about how the PR world works and how to actively engage with it to effectively tell [their] own story.” Jerisha added that she felt this training “is an important and meaningful step towards racial equity as it equips and brings visibility to absented racialized bodies in media.”
M&Co already has training sessions scheduled for the coming months and is excited to see the success of the program grow. Women and minority executives of all industries and backgrounds are welcome to participate in the free media training program about diversity in media.
