Cambridge Analytica Scandal Creates a Media Frenzy
Situation
Cambridge Analytica was accused of illegally acquiring personal data of up to 87 million Facebook users. The company was employed by the Trump Campaign to help target its political ads.
Solution
We provided communications and media relations counsel to a central party in this matter, proactively devising a plan to navigate the global scale of the investigation and the associated media coverage.
Our plan had to be crafted and executed with respect to the anticipation of legal action and testimony to be provided to regulators in the U.S. and U.K. The Facebook/Cambridge Analytica scandal media “frenzy” in the early news cycles was intense and we balanced protecting the party’s reputation with limiting their legal exposure.
Results
No damaging media coverage resulted, and the client’s legal exposure remained limited.
