Realizing an Asset Manager’s Roll Up Vision
Opportunity
This asset manager engineered a series of acquisitions over several years to create a portfolio of mostly alternative asset classes with the goal of one day being arrayed as an integrated offering for both institutional investors and the advisory channel.
Solution
Getting to that destination took patience. Many such roll ups in the sector leave a trail of senior defections and negative fund flows in their wake. Building an asset management platform like this means enabling each acquired entity to feel and function in an independent way as each evolves towards a single corporate identity. That took deft management from the top which also had to be combined with a clear commitment to a shared vision.
Our role in that path was to make sure investors understand both the value of “the parts” by asset class and the potential of their sum on the march to an integrated offering. Through strategic financial communications, we positioned key portfolio managers, analysts, commentators, and of course the CEO, via the media and thought leadership, to convey that mission and the expertise that will achieve it.
Results
Those media results helped define and support the corporate culture as it evolved and helped advance the creation of an overarching corporate identity. Fund flows grew significantly and the leadership team remained intact.
