Preventing False Pollution Claims From Being Published
Problem
This important and authoritative national magazine claimed to have found evidence that our client intentionally released pollutants into a municipal water system and was about to go to print. Engaging with the journalist, we quickly concluded that the information the magazine had was incorrect.
Solution
We advised bringing in media law counsel and created a two-track strategy: gathering detailed information to counter the journalist’s account and the credibility of its sources and being prepared to send a notice letter to the editor.
Result
Over several exchanges with the magazine, we succeeded in correcting the record, protecting both the corporate reputation and the reputation of specific executives without having to send the notice letter.
